A smaller, human-curated web
BAUD helps you discover personal websites, hobby projects and independent communities. It brings together a directory, search and web rings in a small browser-like space. The aim is to make exploring the independent web enjoyable again.
Each approved website is a POINT with a memorable address such as camera98.baud. This address works inside BAUD. It is not an Internet domain you can register or open through ordinary DNS. The original website keeps its own domain, hosting and owner.
How discovery works
Use DIAL when you know a .baud address. Use SEARCH when you want to discover something. SEARCH looks at the titles, descriptions, categories, tags, languages, addresses and ring memberships stored in the BAUD directory. BAUD does not crawl the web or index the contents of external pages.
Directory lets you browse approved POINTS. Rings connect related websites. Random Dial picks an approved POINT for you. Submissions and suggested ring members require human review before they appear publicly.
“No algorithms” means no personalised recommendation feed or behavioural ranking. Ordinary software still matches search terms, sorts results and makes random selections. Your browsing behaviour does not buy or earn a higher position.
No tracking. No boosting/charging.
BAUD does not use advertising trackers, build behavioural profiles or sell your browsing data. Favorites and History stay in your browser on your device; BAUD does not upload them.
Browsing BAUD and submitting a website or ring are free. BAUD charges no submission, listing, review, Native integration, badge, or placement fees. The forms do not create a subscription. There are no paid boosts or sponsored placements. Paying does not influence inclusion or visibility. The domain and hosting of your own website remain your responsibility.
We store submissions, any contact details you choose to provide and the operational information needed to run and protect the service. Public submission forms use Cloudflare Turnstile for human verification. Our hosting and security providers process requests as part of delivering and protecting the service.
Your website stays yours
BAUD stores directory information and links. It does not republish external websites, copy their articles or images into a content archive, or provide hosting for submitted websites. When you open a website, your browser requests it directly from its owner.
A listed POINT opens directly. A compatible POINT may appear inside the BAUD browser when its owner’s settings allow it. Native means the owner has also verified control and added BAUD-aware navigation. Native integration is optional.
BAUD does not bypass restrictions on embedding, access controls or paywalls. It is not a general-purpose website proxy. Operators can make limited requests to submitted sites to check ownership, embedding compatibility or a configured ring feed during moderation.
External websites have their own privacy practices. Their content and availability remain under their owners’ control. If an embedded page changes in a way BAUD cannot inspect, BAUD tells you that its current address cannot be verified.
Built for independent websites
BAUD focuses on smaller, independent parts of the web. Large mainstream platforms are excluded from directory inclusion. This does not prevent you from following ordinary external links to them.
BAUD is not a social network, an advertising platform or a replacement for the Internet. It is a curated layer for discovery. Inclusion is an editorial decision, not a guarantee or endorsement of everything a website publishes.
